Graphite Steel - The metal finish - what makes it different
Graphite Steel is the only Standard Duty colour with a metallic surface treatment. Rather than a solid or wood-grain finish, the surface has a fine metallic lustre — similar in character to the metallic paint used on a car. It catches and shifts with light in a way that flat colours don't, which gives the wall a premium, industrial quality that's hard to achieve with other materials.
It sits visually between Weathered Grey and Black — darker and more interesting than grey, with more warmth and reflectivity than black. It works particularly well in workshops and home gyms where a high-quality industrial finish suits the environment, and in garages where the wall is deliberately designed rather than incidental.
One important thing to know: the metallic effect is on the surface layer of the panel. The core is solid PVC, as with all StoreWALL Standard Duty panels. If the surface is gouged or deeply scratched — not something that happens with normal use — the PVC substrate beneath may become visible. Reasonable care in handling is advised, particularly during installation. Normal use — hanging and removing hooks, placing items on shelves — will not affect the surface.
What's in the carton and what you'll need
The carton contains 4 Standard Duty panels covering 1.48sqm. That's what comes from StoreWALL. To complete the installation you'll also need:
- 4 × Standard Duty InstallStrips (sold separately — one per panel)
- Screws: 7g × 40mm for timber stud walls, 12 per InstallStrip (48 total)
Brick or concrete walls: 5mm × 40mm nylon mushroom anchors instead of screws, same quantity
Screws, anchors and InstallStrips are available in the store.
Installation
Standard Duty panels install using the SD InstallStrip hidden fastener system. The strip fixes to your wall first — screws into timber studs, or nylon anchors into brick or concrete — and the panel then hooks over the strip from the top and sits flush against the wall with no visible fixings and no screws through the panel face.
One SD InstallStrip per 1219mm panel — four per carton. Each 914mm strip breaks into three sections (609mm and 304mm) giving three connection points per panel. For timber stud walls, use 78g × 40mm screws, 12 per InstallStrip. For brick or concrete, use 5mm × 40mm nylon mushroom anchors, same quantity.
The Standard Duty colour range
Graphite Steel is the only metallic finish in the Standard Duty range. For a solid dark colour, Black is the alternative — solid through the full PVC core, with no surface treatment to consider. Weathered Grey is the neutral mid-tone grey option for buyers who want grey without the metallic character. All other colours — Brite White, Barnwood Grey, Whitewood, and Rustic Cedar — are lighter or timber-look finishes.
All seven colours are the same panel, the same grade, and the same price — the choice is purely aesthetic. All use the same CamLok accessories and SD InstallStrips.
Frequently asked questions
How many cartons do I need?
Each 1219mm carton covers 1.48sqm. For a standard double-garage wall (4m wide × 2.1m high = 8.4sqm), you would need approximately 6 cartons. Use the panel estimator on the site for your specific dimensions, or call 0411 280 646 and we'll calculate the exact quantity for your wall.
Can I add more panels to this wall later?
Yes, without removing what's already installed. Standard Duty panels connect vertically using a tongue-and-groove profile — the bottom of each new row clicks into the top of the row below. You can add rows above or below your current installation at any time, and all existing hooks and accessories stay in place while you do it.
Do I need special hooks for these panels?
No. All StoreWALL CamLok accessories fit all Standard Duty panels regardless of colour — the 30+ hooks, shelves, brackets, baskets, bins, and totes in the range are all compatible. So are accessories from MKE Milwaukee Slatwall, HandiWall, GarageTek, and GarageSmarts.
Can Standard Duty panels be cut to length?
Yes. PVC cuts cleanly with a drop saw, circular saw, jigsaw, or multi-tool with a fine-tooth blade. We also offer a free panel cutting service for orders where panels need to be trimmed before shipping. Contact us before placing the order if you need this.
Can I mix Graphite Steel panels with other Standard Duty colours?
Yes. All Standard Duty panels have the same profile and dimensions — they connect and stack cleanly regardless of colour. Graphite Steel pairs well with Weathered Grey for a tonal combination, or as a feature zone within a predominantly Brite White wall. This can be used to create contrast zones or feature rows within the same wall.
What's the difference between Standard Duty and Heavy Duty?
Standard Duty panels are 304.8mm high, 16.7mm thick, rated at 56kg at the surface. Heavy Duty panels are 381mm high, 17.7mm thick, rated at 68kg at the surface — they're taller and stronger, and use a different InstallStrip. For most Australian home garages — tools, bikes, garden equipment, general storage — Standard Duty handles everything comfortably. Heavy Duty is the right choice for trade workshops, very heavy hanging loads, gyms or large commercial installations.
What if I need help planning my installation?
Call Arthur on 0411 280 646 or email [email protected]. We'll walk you through the panel count, InstallStrip quantities, and accessory selection for your specific wall. If you'd prefer a professional installer, any carpenter or experienced handyman can complete a StoreWALL installation — no specialist training required.
Notes:
Brite White - The Whiteness of the Brite White panel may vary between batches. We will make every effort to ensure your order comes from the same batch.
Graphite Steel - is a unique metallic surface treatment, very similar to that found on an automobile. The substructure is solid PVC as are all storeWALL slatwall panels. Please note the metallic effect is only on the surface and if gouged deep enough, just like an automobile, the gouge may show. Thus we encourage reasonable care and handling be exercised when choosing our Graphite Steel slatwall panels.
Weathered Grey - Our Weathered Grey finishes are made as solid colour slatwall but do have a painted finish on the surface. This is to eliminate common streaking in the extrusion process that is only found in grey extruded plastic. The painted finish results in a even consistent finish.
Rustic Cedar, Global Pine, and Barnwood Grey - are intended to simulate real wood; and like real wood there might be some variation in grain and tint from panel to panel.
