MKE Milwaukee Slatwall Panels — Laminated PVC Garage Panels

MKE Milwaukee Slatwall is a fundamentally different product to standard extruded PVC slatwall — including StoreWALL's own Standard Duty and Heavy Duty panels. Where those panels are made by heating and extruding solid PVC, MKE panels are made from compressed laminated PVC: a denser PVC substrate with a precision decorative laminate bonded to the surface. The result is a panel that looks significantly better than extruded slatwall and carries higher surface weight capacity.

Weight Capacity

MKE Milwaukee Slatwall is engineered for high surface weight capacity — significantly higher than standard extruded PVC panels of the same dimensions:

• At panel surface: up to 136kg (300lbs) per panel — confirm AU-specific figure
• At 100mm from panel surface: proportionally reduced — always distribute weight evenly across multiple accessories
• Installation into wall studs is required for rated capacity — use appropriate fasteners for your wall type (timber studs, metal studs, concrete, or masonry)

Because MKE uses face-screw installation rather than InstallStrips, the load path is different to Standard Duty and Heavy Duty. Screws must be driven into studs or solid substrate — not just plasterboard — for rated capacity to apply.

How MKE Differs From Extruded PVC Slatwall

Understanding the manufacturing difference helps explain why MKE looks and performs the way it does:

Extruded PVC (Standard Duty and Heavy Duty)

Plastic pellets are heated, colour-dyed, and pushed through a mould. This process is efficient and produces a solid-core panel, but limits finishes to solid colours and basic woodgrain simulations. Because colour is mixed into the batch of plastic, slight colour variation between production runs is possible.

Compressed Laminated PVC (MKE)

A PVC substrate is compressed (making it denser and stronger than extruded PVC), then a high-quality decorative laminate is bonded to the surface under pressure. This process allows for more realistic timber and texture finishes because the laminate is printed, not extruded. Colour accuracy is consistent across every production run because the laminate is applied rather than mixed in. The compressed substrate is denser than conventional extruded PVC, contributing to higher surface weight capacity.

Installation — Face-Screw Method

MKE panels are installed by driving screws directly through the panel's groove slots into wall studs. This is straightforward and in some situations faster than InstallStrip installation (no need to pre-fit metal strips). Key installation notes:

• Screws sold separately — choose screw type and length to suit your wall (timber stud, metal stud, concrete, masonry)
• Laminate Slot Inserts are available and recommended for a cleaner finish — they fit into the groove slots over the screw heads, hiding fixings from view
• Each 2438mm panel requires approximately 6 fixing points — one at each end and two in the middle, ideally into wall studs
• NOT compatible with StoreWALL Standard Duty or Heavy Duty InstallStrips
• Panels can be installed directly on drywall, concrete, timber, or metal — use appropriate fasteners for each surface type

Accessory Compatibility

MKE panels use the universal 76mm (3") on-centre groove pitch — the same standard used by StoreWALL, HandiWall, Diamond Life, GarageTek, and New Age systems. This means:

• All StoreWALL CamLok accessories fit MKE panels — hooks, shelves, baskets, bins, brackets, bike hooks
• All MKE-branded hooks and accessories fit StoreWALL extruded PVC panels
• HandiWall, Diamond Life, GarageTek, and New Age accessories are also compatible

MKE panels are NOT compatible with Crownwall, Flowwall, Gladiator GearWall, Proslat, or Rubbermaid accessories — those systems use proprietary groove dimensions.

Where MKE Works Best

MKE is the right choice when the visual quality of the wall matters as much as its function. Specific situations where customers choose MKE over Standard Duty:

• Garages that double as living or entertaining spaces — MKE's timber-look panels are more at home in a finished interior than standard PVC
• Home gym, craft room, laundry, or study installations — the laminate finish doesn't read as 'garage storage'
• Alongside cabinetry — MKE colours were specifically chosen to coordinate with popular Australian garage cabinet finishes
• Showroom or retail display — the precision laminate finish is consistent and professional
• Installations where the panel is highly visible and the extruded PVC look doesn't meet the aesthetic bar

Can I Mix MKE With Standard Duty or Heavy Duty Panels?

Yes — all three ranges use the same 76mm groove pitch so accessories are fully interchangeable. MKE panels are the same height as Standard Duty (304mm), so rows align if you want to run both on the same wall. Because MKE uses face-screw installation and Standard Duty uses InstallStrips, the installation method will differ for each section — plan your wall before ordering to avoid complications.
