Why the Mountain Set — and when to choose it over the standard Rotating J-Hook

The standard Rotating J-Hook suits road bikes, hybrid bikes, and most kids' bikes where the tyre profile is narrower. Mountain bikes and e-bikes have wider, knobbier tyres that benefit from an additional lower support point when hanging from the front wheel — that's what the included Wide Hook provides. Without it, the bike can swing or the tyre can deform slightly under its own weight over time.

If you have a standard road or commuter bike, the single Rotating J-Hook is sufficient. If you have an MTB, e-MTB, or fat bike, this set is the right choice.

How the rotating mechanism works

The J-Hook swivels on a pivot point built into the CamLok base. With the bike mounted, you rotate it so the bike sits parallel to the wall rather than sticking out perpendicular. This reduces the clearance needed in front of the bike from roughly 1.5–1.8m (bike length) down to around 200–300mm (tyre width). In a tight double garage with two or three bikes, this difference is significant.

To remove the bike, rotate it back to perpendicular, lift the front wheel off the hook, and lower the bike. The whole process takes a few seconds.

How high should I mount it?
Mount the Rotating J-Hook high enough that the front wheel clears the floor when hanging. For most mountain bikes, this is around 1.5–1.7m from the floor to the hook. The Wide Hook mounts below the J-Hook at a height that supports the lower portion of the tyre — position it after hanging the bike to find the right height before locking it in place.

Can I use this for a road bike or hybrid?
Yes — the Mountain Set will work on any bike, not just MTBs. If you have a road bike or hybrid, the standard Rotating J-Hook alone may be sufficient and is slightly more affordable.
